Comp |
This word has two different meanings in different industries. In the hospitality business, "comp" means paid for or "on the house" (the establishment pays). If you get a comp'd room or meal, it means it was free for you and the establishment took on the cost.
In retail, it means comparable to last year. Comparing current trend with last year allows retailers a measurement on how well or worse they did.
EX: "Store #365 had a +35% sales comp." (their sales were 35% better than last year at the same, comparable time). |
