A complete sentence consists of a subject and a verb (Tom reads books.) Usually, we use longer sentences than the one above. Sentences with two or more subject-verb combinations are linked by coordination (Tom reads books, and they watch TV.) or subordination (When Tom reads books, they watch TV). In coordination, each subject-verb component expresses equal ideas. In subordination, one idea is dependent on another (independent sentence (main clause) + supporting idea (dependent clause).
Coordinating connectors: | and, but, or, so, yet, nor, for, however, therefore, thus, also, besides, moreover, for example, in contrast, etc. |
Subordinating connectors: | when, if, because, although, after, while, which, as soon as, so that, whereas, before, etc. |
In coordination, two independent clauses are joined by a coordinating connector and are separated by a comma (,) or a comma and semicolon (;). In subordination, a comma is used if the dependent clause is before the independent clause.

Summer Expectations
No one anticipated the summer of 2020 to be so different. While summer has always been the time to go on vacation, people are now stuck at home. It seems like a miracle that I was able to travel to Europe when I look at my pictures from last summer. I could just buy a ticket to any destination in the world, which seems crazy now.
The coronavirus pandemic has been a sobering and humbling experience for humanity; as a result, it has changed not only what we do but who we are. You can choose to be angry at the situation, or you can create new joys in your life. Although we have given up many things, we can still enjoy simple pleasures of life such as a little walk on the beach, an ice-cream cone, or an exciting book. We can't hug or shake hands, yet we can pick up a phone and call a friend. Even though masks cover our faces, we can still see each other's smiles on the Internet. Maybe people will manage to live a happy life no matter what if they look at the same reality differently. The sun is still shining, and the birds are still singing. We can certainly have a fun summer, so let's make a new list of favorite things.
